Root canal treatment — also called endodontics — is used when the nerve inside a tooth (the pulp) becomes infected due to decay or injury. Left untreated, this can lead to severe discomfort and even tooth loss.
At Atrium Dental in Camberley, we provide safe, comfortable root canal treatment to relieve pain and save teeth, helping you avoid extractions and more costly replacements such as implants, bridges, or dentures.

Relieving pain, treating infection, and saving natural teeth.
Same-day and next-day appointments available for urgent cases.
You may need root canal treatment if:
You have persistent toothache or throbbing pain
Your tooth is tender when biting or chewing
You experience swelling of the gums, face, or neck
You have an abscess (build-up of pus) caused by infection
Root canal treatment removes infection from inside the tooth, relieves pain, and preserves your natural tooth structure.
Book AppointmentConsultation & Diagnosis – We’ll examine your tooth, take X-rays, and confirm whether root canal treatment is needed.
First Appointment – The tooth is numbed with local anaesthetic, the canals are cleaned, and an antibiotic dressing with a temporary filling is placed.
Follow-up Visits – The canals are cleaned again before being permanently sealed with a root filling made of gutta-percha.
Restoration – Depending on the case, your dentist may recommend a dental crown to protect the tooth from future breakage.
We understand that many patients are nervous about root canals, but thanks to modern technology, the treatment is far less daunting than its reputation.
Local anaesthetic ensures treatment is pain-free
A rubber dam keeps the tooth clean and dry during the procedure
Most patients report feeling relief after the very first appointment
Matt Cottam qualified from the University of Birmingham in 2020 and has since developed a special interest in endodontics, currently undertaking his Master’s in the field. Known for his calm and caring manner, Matt is especially popular with nervous patients, helping them feel at ease throughout their treatment. Outside of dentistry, his ideal day off would be spent on a sunny golf course abroad, enjoying a relaxing round in great weather.
Book AppointmentA root canal is the natural space inside a tooth where the pulp (nerve tissue) sits. If this pulp becomes infected, treatment is needed to remove the bacteria and save the tooth.
Without treatment, infection can spread, causing abscesses, swelling, and severe pain. Root canal treatment stops the infection and prevents the need for extraction.
No. With modern techniques and anaesthetic, root canal treatment feels similar to having a filling.
Most patients experience only mild discomfort for a few days, which can be managed with over-the-counter pain relief. Eating softer foods and chewing on the opposite side can help.
Yes, in some cases. Because root canal treatment can weaken the tooth, your dentist may recommend placing a crown for added strength and protection.
